BALLADE - e-mobility project with paybox
(2011-05-12)
Electric cars have the potential to change our mobility permanently. To boost the use of e-mobility in Austria, it is necessary to have a charging infrastructure that is easy to use and available everywhere. To accelerate the widespread coverage of the e-service stations, a consortium by leading companies develops a comprehensive concept for a sophisticated charging station network. Paybox, the FH Joanneum, Cirquent and Everynear are involved in project "BALLADE" (The user-friendly ubiquitous charging station for electric vehicles). See also http://everynear.eu/.

The mobile payment provider Paybox Bank AG charged the subsidiary of WebDynamite, lizenzfrei IT Consulting GmbH, with the implementation of the loading station server. The server manages all connected loading stations of different operators and arranges the settlement over the mobile payment system of the paybox or other means of payment. The loading station server is thus the core of the system and is responsible for the integration and management of the charging stations. Lizenzfrei has placed great emphasis on the implementation of a maintenance and expansion-friendly software design and counted on open source libraries. The server runs at the telecom data center and will be extended continuously.
Since a full charge takes a relatively long time, the idea is to use idle times in parking garages or on supermarket car parks to partially charge the batteries whenever possible. The stations are designed to be especially simple and go without any input devices such as displays or keyboards, which in turn is a good protection against vandalism and avoids high maintenance costs. Moreover, driver can easily find out about the location of the nearest charging station with the help of the integrated navigation service.
Charging is done with a simple CE plug connector that is compatible with any electric vehicle. Once the electric car is plugged in, the loading station server verifies the customer data and manages the automatic settlement. The aim is to create transparency for all stakeholders and to enable cashless fueling.
